Li Jun (b. 1978) (I) Chinese Hamburger (Ii) Hotdog ink and colour on paper, set of two executed in 2011 each: 60 x 60 cm. (23 5/8 x 23 5/8 in.) FURTHER DESCRIPTION Renowned art critic Lu Hong has a very fitting description for the style of Li Jun’s works: “Li Jun, as well as a number of emerging ink painters, create from a place of special personal emotions, with an emphasis on the interaction between times and life, thereby finding new growth potential in the development of ink painting. Take Li Jun’s works for example, he creates portraits of a large variety of dogs using traditional Mogu (‘boneless’) technique, and a colouring technique that involves adding water and powdery material to still-drying pigment, emphasizing the loneliness in modern city life and the cultural issue of distance and lack of communication. Li Jun and other emerging artists are using their own works to prove that, using ink as the medium of expression, new ink art can speak for reality in imagery and in essence.
