Modelled as a frog, the ornament set with a carved rock crystal, highlighted by a pair of round cabochon peridot-set eyes. Accompanied with a petrified wooden stand, together with a label stating that in the late Tertiary period, blankets of rainforest surrounding volcanoes were plentiful throughout Indonesia. After volcanic eruption these trees were buried by ash and lava eliminating any microbes that would rot the wood. The wood was then replaced with silica rich minerals such as chalcedony, quartz, calcite, opal and jasper. The beautiful colours in the wood come from assorted trace elements. Traces of manganese create blue and black colours and traces of iron would result in different shades of brown and orange. This petrified wood from Indonesia is millions of years old.
Frog measuring approximately 15.00 x 20.00 x 8.30mm; petrified wood approximately 24.50 x 30.00 x 2.00mm.
