MIKIMOTO
Named after the founder’s surname, the Japanese jewellery brand Mikimoto is the world’s leading purveyor of cultured pearls. The company was established in 1893 after Kokichi Mikimoto became the first in the world to successfully culture a semi-spherical pearl. Since then, it has been developing a dazzling array of precious stones in its catalogue as well as expanding its stores not only inside Japanese boundaries, but also towards New York, London, Paris, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Aiming to develop original jewellery designs and production techniques combining traditional Japanese craftsmanship and European finesse, Kokichi Mikimoto established the Mikimoto Gold Work Factory in 1907, which is the first Japanese factory dedicated to the design and manufacture of jewellery. After over a hundred year of heritage, Mikimoto is now a worldwide benchmark of quality and innovation, embracing clusters of followers among royalty, celebrities and aristocracy, which has genuinely achieved the founder’s intention to ‘adorn the neck of every woman in the world’.
