Tan Jun (b.1973) Animals In Heart 9 ink and mixed media on paper executed in 2011 76 x 144 cm. (30 x 56 3/4 in.) FURTHER DESCRIPTION After graduating from the School of Chinese Painting at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, and spending several years in a teaching career, Tan Jun decided to return his dedication to the exploration of creative ink art. Art critics have said that Tan Jun’s work carries a “ghostly” quality, intending no shortage of compliment to the artist. The fact is, Tan Jun’s work carries a phantom sense of mystery, portrayed through cold and desolate imageries that seem to sit on textures found on murals or bricks, which has become the artist’s unique signature that puts him in the spotlight in the realm of Chinese contemporary art.
