FURTHER DESCRIPTION
Yu Hui’s paintings are a pursuit for the subtlety and simplicity found in paintings from the Song Dynasty and a result of her up-close observations of nature. Her art also shows modern concepts in composition, in which objects are deliberately shown out of bounds or cropped, giving the images more fullness and tension. Meticulous about her creations, the layouts are often sharp and concise, brushwork is graceful and delicate, colours are lightly applied. She is most well-versed in depicting lake rocks, flowers and birds, in a calm temperament, making her an authoritative artist in the realm of Chinese contemporary Gongbi flower-and-bird paintings.

Inscription was written by calligrapher Jin Zhuyu, born in 1966, member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, researcher at the Guoxue Institute of Nanjing University.
