Liu Xiongjun developed his unique aesthetics by practicing painting and calligraphy since his graduation from Normal University in 1980. Liu is famous for landscapes and skyline ink paintings with contrasting structure and layers. Song of Streamer is one of his best examples. With his full imagination, this work depicted the landscape in an aerial view, which is different from his rule of composition in the past. Not only had it given a new perspective to his landscape paintings, but it also exemplified Liu’s uniqueness of using strokes and ink to create multiple layers of scenic composition, as well as his beautiful calligraphy.

The work Elimination/Grow-3 is a depiction of snow melt by using huge patches of black and white on the paper. This simple black and white contracts gracefully. Other the other hand, the painting is enriched by the irregular intercrossing lines making its composition simple and elegant yet full of fun and lives.
