Liu Yue (b. 1981) Mountain Blossom 07 & 14 a set of two inkjet print on photo paper executed in 2007 100 x 100 cm each (39 1/2 x 39 1/2 in) edition 1/8
NOTE accompanied with certificate signed by the artist Liu Yue establishes a rare statement in modern photography.
He forgoes the format of the common images and their embedded messages. Instead, he opts for the distilled basic forms and colours, as he is trying to convey that only the truth lasts and the artificial creates emptiness. His works, albeit in simple forms, encompass a vivid spirit of revolt. Liu extracts and distills all manmade concepts and meanings to matters, and even names his works without relation to the content. In Mountain Blossom, the artist uses the simple geometric shape of circle as the format, triangles as mountains, made of quilts from his childhood. The vast space of the sky leads beholders into the painting, not without nostalgic thoughts of the bygone era.
