Ye grew up in a house with a stylised garden. The locale has affected his choice of subject matters thereon. He transcribes the garden onto paper. In this latest work of a set of two paintings, Ye draws rocks from the Taiwu Lake at Suzhou, known for their eccentric shapes formed by the waves and weather. While in 'Snow', Ye uses dry strokes to draw the rocks, creating a visual effect of caves and rocks. The dexterous use of the various gradient of ink colour immediately puts the work into perspective with clouds, earth, rock, as if beholders are led to their dreamland. In 'Immersing in the Snow', the artist uses ink to define the rocks, supplemented with simple strokes to outline the details, creating a visual effect of depth among the rocks.
