Wu Shaoying (b. 1966) Ink 12 ink on canvas executed in 2011 diameter 145 cm signed Shaoying
Wu is one of few contemporary female artists who has established a distinctive oriental style using a new medium. She studies the traditional painting style of using ink and water and conducted research on Chinese paintings from the British Museum collection. Wu liberates the roles of ink and water from being on paper to being on canvas and succeeds in maintaining the fluidity of ink on a much less absorbent material.
